  • Irvin Leon Shaw, age 93 of Sims, AR departed his loving family on March 3, 2019. Irvin was born on April 9, 1925 to Audie and Bertha Shaw at Madill, OK. Irvin was married to Alta Marie Hatton Shaw on July 19, 1944. For 74 years, they shared their life and the birth of three beautiful girls before he was called home to the Lord. Irvin is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Odell Shaw, Eulas Shaw, and Dean Shaw, along with his sister, Jerline Qualls; and sons-in-law, Raze Rowland and Alton Tiner.

    Survivors include: wife, Alta Marie Hatton Shaw of Sims; daughters, Pauline Rowland of Sims, Wanda Clenney (Dub) of Mt. Ida, DeVonia Tiner of Sims; granddaughters, Cheri Clenney of Benton, Deana Cole (Wes) of Mt. Ida, Alice Summitt (Derek) of Sims; great-grandchildren, Breanna Tidwell of Fayetteville, Will Cole of Mt. Ida, Maddie and Gracie Summitt of Sims, along with many nieces, nephews, and his church family.

    Irvin is a military veteran, serving over in Germany during World War II from 1945 to 1946. His faith was strong with him serving as an Elder at the Mt Ida Church of God and later becoming an elder of the Prairie Grove Church of God. Irvin was a hard working and dedicated individual that worked after the war for the Civilian Conservation Corps, then later as a shipping clerk at the Indianapolis Glove factory. He also served and retired with the U.S. Forest Service. His true passion came from being a family man and being known as the lifetime parent and grandparent at Camp YoLaWiGo (youth camp).

    Visitation will be held Monday, March 4, 2019 5-7 p.m. at Thornton Funeral Home in Mt. Ida, AR. Service will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Mt. Ida Church of God in Mt. Ida, AR with Ed DePriest officiating. Interment will follow at Rocky Cemetery. Pallbearers: Terry Kinsey, Wes Cole, Will Cole, Derek Summitt, Aaron Hatton, Brent Johnson, and Tim Shaw. Honorary Pallbearers: Dub Clenney and Montgomery County Nursing Home staff. Services under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home in Mount Ida, AR. Guest register at www.thorntonfh.com.

    I have many good memories of being long time neighbors growing up near the Shaw family. So sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you at this sad time. Ava Dean

    It's a sad time to lose a parent. I pray for peace, comfort and love for each of you. My mom and Your dad shared the same birthday and she always told us to be sure and tell him happy birthday. I know you will miss him. Praying for y'all.

    Signing on behalf of Leveta Duncan and family. Mother is still in the hospital and we are unable to attend the services. We all loved Brother Irvin and cherished the time spent with him at Camp Yolawigo. Love and prayers to all.
